Job Position: Scientific Collaborator on DigGeoNaija Project
Project Overview
The Digital Geoheritage Innovation (DigGeoNaija) project aims to revolutionize Nigeria’s geotourism by digitizing, inventorying, and commercializing its geological heritage through advanced digital technologies. These include Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), Mixed Reality (MR), Internet of Things (IoT), and cloud computing. By merging science with technology, DigGeoNaija will make Nigeria’s geosites accessible globally while promoting sustainability and fostering economic growth.
Mission:
As a Scientific Collaborator, you will contribute to the innovative use of digital tools for the conservation, study, and commercialization of Nigeria’s geosites. You will work alongside a multidisciplinary team to ensure the scientific rigor of data collection, analysis, and the development of digital platforms that promote sustainable geotourism.
Role Overview
- Scientific Data Collection & Analysis: Lead or assist in gathering geological, and environmental data for geosites, ensuring accuracy in digitization processes using GIS, AI, and IoT.
- Research & Development: Participate in cutting-edge research, applying new methodologies and technologies to create a comprehensive inventory of Nigeria’s geosites.
- Modeling & Visualization: Collaborate in developing high-resolution models (3D outcrops, VR/AR environments) that enhance both scientific understanding and visitor experiences.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work with engineers, IT experts, conservationists, and other scientists to integrate IoT and AI for environmental monitoring and sustainable geosites management.
- Project Contribution: Contribute to the project’s aims by providing expert knowledge on specific geosites, supporting geotourism development strategies, and ensuring the scientific integrity of commercialized geosites.
Key Qualifications:
PhD or MSc in Earth Sciences, Geology, Geophysics, Environmental Science, or related fields: Expertise in field data collection, geological mapping, geophysical analysis, or environmental monitoring.Â
Technical Proficiency: Experience with GIS software, geospatial data analysis, AI-based modeling, or IoT systems for environmental monitoring is desirable.
Collaboration & Communication: Ability to work in interdisciplinary teams, communicate scientific findings clearly, and contribute to collaborative research and development efforts.

- Fieldwork Honorarium (Daily stipend, Travel, Accommodation, Equipment allowance)
